The oldest nursery in Billings
Billings Nursery began serving the greater Billings area in 1952 at 7900 South Frontage Road. Robert (Bob) Marble and his wife, Joanne, bought the business in December of 1968, wishing to move their family west to avoid the Detroit riots occurring at the time. Bob, having been involved in Arboriculture back in Michigan, felt the nursery business was a natural fit. Along with their five children, they moved to enjoy the slower pace of life in Montana (or so they thought).
With hard work and dedicated long-time employees, Billings Nursery continued to grow. This provided the opportunity to purchase a second location at 2147 Poly drive (formerly Salsbury’s). It was during this time that the second generation began taking over the business. Bob and Joanne’s son, David, became the manager of the new store while Richard managed the Frontage Road location and landscaping service. David, following a passion for collecting Turn of the Century oak antiques sold professionally refinished furniture at the Poly Drive store for over 30 years. David retired in 2012 from full time work and the business phased out the antiques soon after. David continued to manage the Poly Drive location through 2016 and the store is continuing as a special event center today.
The business continues to grow with Richard still active in the business while transitioning to the third generation. Andrew, Richard’s son, along with the help of best employees in the business are poised and eager continue the quality traditions his grandfather began 49 years ago while evolving with new ideas and opportunities to better serve our customers. Artistic landscaping is a growing part of the business along with the addition of a Stone Yard at our Frontage Road location for homeowners and contractors.
